Tamoxifen is a cancer drug used to treat breast cancer. It can also be called as selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and it is a very important medication for these patients who are suffering from such type of cancer because it blocks the hormones' action, hence preventing the cells from growing. It is also used to prevent the recurrence of breast cancer in post-menopausal women.

In body building Tamoxifen helps to deal with some side effects that may arise because of steroids. Anabolic-androgenic steroids which have estrogenic properties while being used in a cycle can cause gynecomastia and fluid retention. To block the estrogen receptors, Tamoxifen can be applied.

During steroid cycle, other drugs are usually taken together with tamoxifen like anabolic steroids and growth hormones. The recommended dosage falls within 10-40 mg per day while the duration of cycle varies across patients.

Like any drug, Tamoxifen has got its side effects too. These consist hot flashes, joint pain, headaches depression and reduced libido among others. Also it is known as a medication that interferes with metabolism of other medications thus increasing blood clots formation in human bodies.
